Gustav Gnamuš (born in 1941)

Gnamuš was born on 18 November 1941 in Mežica. He attended a teaching training school in Maribor (1956-1961) and later studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana (1961-1966, under Professors Maksim Sedej, France Mihelič and Gabrijel Stupica), graduating in 1966 from the class of Prof. Maksim Sedej. From 1967 to 1971 he worked as an art teacher at the Prevalje primary school and then worked as a freelance artist in Ljubljana (1972-1979). In 1979 he began lecturing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he has held the position of full professor of drawing and painting since 1990. Among others, he has received the Prešeren Fund Award (1992) and the Prešeren Award (2000). He participates in painting workshops, and as a teacher he also takes part at summer student painting workshops. His colour paintings reflect his intensive involvement in the theoretical issues of art.
