Stane Jagodič (born in 1943)

Jagodič was born on 15 June 1943 in Celje. After primary school, which he attended in Šmarje pri Jelšah, he enrolled at the Ljubljana School of Arts and Crafts (1960/64), later renamed the School of Design. In 1964/65 he taught at the primary school in Lesično pri Kozjem and published his first caricatures in the magazine, Pavliha. Later, he passed the entrance examinations and began his studies of painting at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts (1965/70; he graduated under Prof France Mihelič). Since his graduation he has lived and worked in Ljubljana (since 1972 as a freelance artist). He is one of the founders of Grupa Junij (other founding members are Enver Kaljanac, Hari Draušbaher and Viktor Gojkovič, 1970/85), Junij International Art Collection (since 1997 kept at the Ljubljana Architecture Museum) and the Aritas Slovene Triennial of Satire and Humour in Šmarje (an event combining visual art and literature, founded in 1995). In 1980 he received the Prešeren Fund Award.
He has been active in different areas of art, exploring and combining many techniques. He has published drawings, illustrations, satirical art, caricatures, essays, manifestos, short stories, aphorisms and satirical poetry in Slovene and foreign periodicals.
Apart from being a painter, photographer and graphic artist, he also focuses on collage, assemblage and objects. The fundamental principle of his artistic activities is variability.
