Matjaž Počivavšek (born in 1955)

Počivavšek was born on 4 October 1955 in Ljubljana. He studied at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts (1974-1978), where he also pursued post-graduate studies in sculpture (1978-1980, Prof. Slavko Tihec). He continued his post-graduate studies at the New York Studio School (1980-1981, W. Tucker) and at the L'Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris (1983-1986). He lives and works in Ljubljana and Paris. He is a member of the Equrna Gallery. In 1980 he received the Zlata Ptica Award (Golden Bird), followed by the Prešeren Fund Award in 1991 and a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. He has also received grants from the Soros (1993) and Rembrandt (1994) Foundations in Ljubljana. He is a sculptor (he creates a mental space with the help of minimal, primary forms). He works in classic, hard materials.
