Apolonija Šušteršič (born in 1965)
Šušteršič was born on 25 October 1965 in Ljubljana. In 1992 she completed her studies of architecture at the University of Ljubljana (School of Architecture) under Prof. Janez Koželj and the sculptor Duba Sambolec. She continued her studies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldenden Kunsten in Amsterdam (1994-1995). In 1996 she worked as an assistant at the Dan Graham studio in New York. In Ljubljana she participated in several architecture competitions and collaborated with the Skupina group (other members were the architects Tadej Glažar, Saša Galonja, Aleš Vrhovec and Arne Vehovar, 1988-1992) and A. Vehovar (1992-1993). Since she won recognition abroad - she was invited to Manifesta 2 (Luxembourg, 1998), held a solo exhibition at Moderna Museet Stockholm, 2nd Berlin Biennale 2001, etc. - she has lived in Ljubljana and the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Haarlem). In her installations and other works, the artist focuses on the space that she uses for establishing connections between visitors and the tradition of space.
