Mirsad Begić (born in 1953)
Begić was born on 31st January 1953 in Glamoč in Bosnia. In
1974 he graduated from the art secondary school in Sarajevo. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art in Ljubljana (1975-1979)
and after graduation continued his post-graduate studies in sculpture
(he enrolled in 1979 and graduated in 1986 from the class of Prof.
Drago Tršar). During this time he spent a year and a half (1982/1983)
studying at St. Martin's School of Art in London (A. Caro). On his
travels around Europe, Ireland and Scotland, he became acquainted
with Celtic culture. In 1983, he returned to Ljubljana, where he now
lives and works as a freelance artist. He has received a number of
first prizes for his works at exhibitions of Yugoslav art, and
in 1986 he produced a sculpture for permanent museum exhibition in
Sao Paulo. He produces monumental and public sculpture (he has executed some examples of this type of sculpture at sculpture symposiums), small-scale sculpture and spatial settings (where his knowledge of ancient cultures is most evident), portraits and drawings.
